Hot Tub & SwimSpa FAQ

Maintenance

How much do hot tubs cost to run?

The average running cost of a 2 pump Hot Tub will vary according to insulation, usage and again construction. Running costs range from 27p-£1.50 all singing / dancing

Do I need to plumb the hot tub in and how long does it take to fill up?

Our hot tubs will not require to be plumbed in as they are self-contained, portable units. The time it takes to fill up a hot tub really depends on your water pressure and the size of the tub, but on average it would be around 2-3 hours filling time.

What power supply do I need?

This depends on the size of heater your hot tub has, and the amount of pumps that run the tub.  The power supplies range from 13amp, 16amp, 32amp, 40amp & 50amp, and here at Arctic we have spas to suit them all.   We can also re-programme our motherboards to accept a lower amperage meaning you can have it all even if your electrics do not have the capacity at that time.

Do I need to have my hot tub turned on every day?

Yes it needs to be kept on.  It’s a false economy turning your spa off when it’s not in use. The water will start to cool and you will have to pay for that electricity again to heat it. Also, the water has to be thoroughly filtered and sanitised, which can only be done when the tub is powered up. By leaving your hot tub on it will maintain its temperature more efficiently, and it will also maintain crystal clear water more effectively. Remember with our brands, the pumps heat the water for you with less use of the heater, saving you money.

Can I purchase future chemicals and filters for my hot tub from you?

Yes, we supply replacement filters and chemicals for all our hot tub and SwimSpa ranges.

How often do I need to change the water?

Looking after your hot tubs water is actually very easy; the most important part is to ensure you always have enough sanitizer (normally chlorine or bromine). Changing your water will depend on the usage of your spa but it is estimated that you should carry out a complete water change every 3-4 months.

What do you need to prepare before installing a hot tub?

To install your hot tub, you only need to worry about three things: a solid, level base to stand it on, a power outlet to provide the juice, and a hose pipe to fill it up with – it really is that simple. If you plan to sink the spa, there will be the added consideration of access to the component door for servicing, so do bear that in mind when planning and preparing your base. You will be provided with full installation instructions from us, which will include specific advice on sinking the model purchased.

Health

How long should you stay in your hot tub?

There is no recommended time limit for bathing in your hot tub, however, it is best to keep yourself hydrated whilst you are in the spa and drink plenty of water. You should also take care to maintain your sanitizer level, which will deplete over a few hours of bathing.

Are hot tubs good for your skin?

Water is good for your skin, but hot water over a long period will cause your skin to dry out. It is important to maintain the correct pH and Sanitizer balance so as not to cause skin irritation. We would always suggest that a good moisturiser is used all over after using your hot tub.

Can you go into a hot tub if you have a heart condition?

Owners need to avoid strenuous activity and high temperatures. Hot tubs are not normally recommended for people with heart problems, and we would always advise you contact your doctor before use.

Can I go in a hot tub with fake tan on?

We recommend that you do not use the hot tub with fake tan as this will leave coloured residue in the water and around the tub.
